04-2011: Now we have moved back to Texas! We're in Stratford now, and I have moved up a gardening zone! Of course, it's not much warmer here, and the wind is actually a little worse...but we're back home in Texas, and that's what matters! Probably won't have much of a garden or flower beds this year...and I lost almost all of my plants to the great freeze this year. It was colder, longer than it has been in over 30 years, and almost all of my beautiful plants are gone. Even my orchids, which I had great luck with getting to bloom again and again. Oh, well. I guess I needed to thin out a little! 02-2009: Having moved to southwestern Kansas in February, I am on another steep learning curve, and learning a new meaning for the term "perrenial" -- it is now May 6th, and we are just now able to plant and really work outside. I'm used to getting out in the middle of February or the middle of March...and apparently we can expect our first freeze as early as mid-September. Argh! We have 10 acres, and a huge yard, so I am thinking after we get the place cleaned up and like we want it, I will have the better half build me a greenhouse! And, during our move, I left some of my tender plants outside, and many of them got frost-bit, and alas, some died. The ones I miss most are my ferns - kangaroo paw and rabbit's foot - and some of my more exotic succulents. And the rub is that I have a sun room - but we got here late, and I didn't feel like lugging the plants up the stairs....grrr!
