I am a master gardener (no longer active) with over 50 years of experience gardening in the Gulf Coast - 6 years in Beaumont; the rest in Houston divided between the acid/sandy soils of the Memorial area (9 years) with the rest of the time on alkaline/clay soils of Bellaire. I've volunteered as the garden expert at multiple Azaleas Trails, as well as lectured. I am opinionated, but this is based on hard experience. I try to 'trial' a number of plants annually.
