"Dendrobium amethystoglossum is a tall and pretty species of orchid that only occurs on Luzon island in the Philippines. The long bamboo like stems create these inflorescences that are so perfectly shaped and coloured that despite the fact that green is the most dominant colour it's still very conspicuous. Not surprisingly it is a very popular orchid. It's very easy to grow and grows best in intermediate temperatures. Like most Dendrobium it requires more water and and fertilizer when it's producing new canes. Neglecting the plant in this time is the typical reason why Dendrobium preform badly. For some reason many people think that orchids thrive on neglect. This probably comes from the fact that some popular old fashioned orchid species required a dry winter rest and people automatically assumed that a dry period is what makes all orchids flower. However a dry winter rest is only logical aside a strong growing season to make up for all those growless months."
