Taken on 12th January 2008. They have extended claws, enabling them to cling to bark to search for grubs.

Taken on 6th February 2008. See how the colouring matches the branches, sun glow on mossy branches giving a yellow-green hue and the dark middle stripe like a branch. Camouflage against predators!

On 7th February 2008, a male which has a broader black central breast strip, picking at a Salix bud. Too early for nesting material, perhaps looking for insects.

On 16th March, a female which has a narrower black breast strip. She always looks very sweet, and is usually more shy than the male.

On 30th March, this is a male. The colouring is more rich than the female, the back has a moss-green colour, good camouflage when climbing in trees with mossy branches.

On 24th June, the young came to the peanuts with Dad, still not able to feed themselves but that didn't stop them wondering how!
