Coraciiformes
Belted Kingfisher
Coraciiformes include 250 species of often brightly colored birds. Most species are found in Europe, Africa and Asia, but a few are in North America. The Coraciiformes include kingfishers, bee-eaters, hornbills and others. Although Coraciiformes vary greatly in size and coloration worldwide, they all share the unusual characteristic called syndactylous, which means three of their toes point forward. One toe points backwards to help them grasp their perch. They have three toes joined by skin at the base of the foot.
