Very approachable and photogenic skipper. Very easily recognized from the underside of the hindwing, where there are typically two broad bands, dark brown, with a very prominent dark spot near the middle of the leading edge. The Violet-banded Skipper is only a periodic stray to south Texas, so I was very fortunate to have had it visit the Houston area. It rarely strays to Arizona or Florida.
